What is the difference between a primary and secondary resource?

Answer

Primary sources are resources closely connected to the event or the person you are researching. Primary sources would include: journal or diary entries, artifacts, original photographs, autobiographies, and some speeches

Secondary sources are a step removed. Secondary sources would include: newspaper articles, textbooks, biographies, documentaries, encyclopedias, and dictionaries.

If you are limiting your research to primary sources, consider limiting your search through the library's filters. Select "All Filters" from your search results. Then, select "source types."  With the list below, most results are secondary, but "Primary Source Documents" are included. Also, audio, conference materials, and videos might be considered primary sources, depending on their content.
